Mission Statement

To transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life.

Description

Established as a provisional chapter in 2003, the Minnesota Chapter of the USGBC has grown from a handful of individuals interested in spreading the message of green building in Minnesota to an active and thriving organization intent on transforming the State’s built environment.

Originally founded as the "Mississippi Headwaters Chapter," the Minnesota Chapter has grown to become a leading regional catalyst for the acceptance and adoption of green building practices, technologies, policies and standards.

Minnesota is home to many nationally recognized leaders in high-performance, cold-climate building design. The builders in our region have been quick to embrace sustainable design. Over its short history, the chapter has established a strong foundation through membership, sponsorship, educational programs and networking with like-minded organizations and individuals.

Currently, we have more than 560 members. We expect that number to climb as we increase awareness of green building in our region. According to the Metropolitan Council, the Twin Cities population will increase by 40 percent, or 1 million people, by 2030. The Minnesota Chapter will play a leading role to ensure that development is completed responsibly for the benefit of our environment and our residents.
