Mission Statement

Boston Opera Collaborative is a company managed by its vibrant artists, dedicated to cultivating exceptional performance opportunities beyond higher education and to producing dynamic opera that engages Boston audiences.

Description

Boston Opera Collaborative was founded in 2005 by Brooke Larimer, Katie Drexel, and Markus Hauck. All three artists sought to create a company that would provide the necessary performing experience for operatic artists seeking a professional career after completing post-graduate studies. Thus, BOC was formed to give these artists opportunities to perform leading and supporting operatic roles, as well as to continue developing all aspects of their growth as a performer.

At BOC's first official meeting, the founders brought an additional 17 members into the company. Following that meeting, BOC held its first public performance in February 2006, a Valentine's Day concert, and presented its first full main stage production of Gluck's Iphignie en Aulide in August 2006. Since that inaugural performance, BOC has presented seventeen fully-staged productions as well as numerous concerts, scene programs, and recitals; giving performance opportunities to over 150 young artists in the greater Boston area.

In 2013, BOC was proud to present the New England premiere of Jake Heggie's Dead Man Walking. Other past productions include Verdi's Falstaff, Adamo's Little Women, Janek's Cunning Little Vixen, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, andDon Giovanni, Puccini's Suor Angelica, Gianni Schicchi and La Bohme, Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites, Handel's Alcinaand Bizet's Carmen.

In addition to providing high quality performance opportunities, BOC provides its artists invaluable training and hands on experience in the administrative skills needed to run a successful opera company. BOC's artists comprise all of the administrative staff for the company, from the executive team to the individuals who constitute each committee.
