Our Programs and Services...
Transportation
Two 12-passenger vans are used to give rides to seniors and disabled residents of Castleton and surrounding towns. Over 5,000 rides are provided annually. The van operates 8 hours each day, 5 days a week with 24-hour notice to schedule a ride.
Nutrition
Senior lunches are provided in a group social setting 3 days a week in the dining room at the Community Center. Over 2,400 meals are served at the Center annually and over 3,500 home delivered meals through the Meals on Wheels program.
Health and Fitness
Our Wellness Program provides a wide variety of programs and activities for seniors. A walking trail offers area residents a 1/3 mile paved surface suitable for wheel chairs that provides an outdoor exercise option for seniors with limited physical mobility. Wellness classes include "Bone Builders", an osteoporosis prevention class, Movement Medley, a mix of exercises and basic strength training, a falls prevention program and Tai Chi for Arthritis and Diabetes.
Social and Recreational Activities
Regularly scheduled groups include: bridge club, dominoes, bingo, knitters, and sewing circle. A weekly coffee hour on Friday provides an opportunity to socialize and reduce isolation. A monthly pot luck supper brings over 40 members of the community together for an evening of socializing and entertainment.
Education
In addition to programs on nutrition and other health related topics, we schedule educational programs in a wide range of topics including personal safety issues, legislative concerns and the arts. Introductory computer and internet classes are offered regularly.
Youth Program
CCS runs a summer day camp program for children 6-10 years of age. Activities include a nutritious breakfast and lunch, swimming at the CSC pool, reading groups, gardening, crafts, games and educational field trip. Full scholarships are available for income eligible children for the four week program. The SCAMP program provides a stimulating summer program that nurtures a child’s physical, social and intellectual development.
