Mission Statement

The Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art is dynamic and committed to presenting new ideas about the cultural heritage of the Gulf Coast region and beyond. Inspired by the unique and innovative expression of George Ohr, Pleasant Reed, and Frank Gehry, the Museum presents compelling exhibits and interactive educational experiences so that people of all ages can discover the diversity and richness of American artistic traditions.

Description

The Ohr Gallery houses approximately two hundred and fifty original pieces of fine art pottery created by George E. Ohr.

This is the largest permanent public collection of Ohr's work in the world. George believed that his works should not be judged by themselves but as a whole. Often, he became frustrated that people did not appreciate his work, and at one time he buried a cache of pots for a more enlightened future generation to find.
