I have enjoyed volunteering at Shawnee Town in a number of ways for the past 4 years. I am one of the interpreters of the site for school groups, Shawnee Days and Straw Hat Saturdays. During these events, I get to interact with people of all ages and tell them what life was like in Shawnee in the 1929 era. The staff is very easy to work with and provide plenty of information so that I am comfortable doing my job. It is fun working with other volunteers who are interested in the same things. Every time that I leave Shawnee Town I feel rewarded in knowing that I have helped to make history interesting to the visitors. It is so much fun, that my nephew age 7, asks to volunteer also.

Shawnee Town is a little jewel in the Kansas City metro area -- with a great staff and volunteers. It's a cool place to soak up the history of the region, as well as take part in helping others learn about it. And one of the best parts is that Shawnee Town is growing and getting even better. I enjoy being a part of it.
