At The Marine Mammal Center, we are guided and inspired by a shared vision of a healthy ocean for marine mammals and humans alike. Our mission is to advance global ocean conservation through marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation, scientific research, and education.
The Marine Mammal Center is the largest marine mammal hospital in the world. It is also a unique institution, providing three critical, interrelated services:-Rescue, Rehabilitation and Release of distressed marine mammals, including seals, sea lions, dolphins, whales, and sea otters;-Original research and data dissemination to local, regional and international scientific communities; -Educational programs for school groups, the veterinary community, and the general public. The Marine Mammal Center operates along 600 miles of California coastline from Mendocino to San Luis Obispo. Through its rescue, rehabilititation and release program, The Center is responsible for more stranded marine mammal rescues than any other institution in the world- over 600 a year.
