Mission Statement
To help new mothers in financial crisis who are in desperate need of critical care items for their newborn. Second Stork's mission is provide these items while operating in a highly cost-effective manner and with no political or religious agendas.
Description
Second Stork delivers newborn critical care items directly to the birth center social workers and nurses at over 40 Minnesota hospitals. The hospital staff directly distribute these items to new mothers in financial crisis who have no other immediate options for securing items such as diapers, wet wipes, pack-n-play cribs (for a safe, clean place for newborn to sleep), and/or newborn clothing for the infant to wear as they leave the hospital.
Second Stork works to preserve the dignity of the mothers, and the time requirement of social workers, by not requiring any forms or approval processes. Instead, Second Stork relies totally on the expertise and judgment of these experienced and dedicated social workers and nurses.
In 2015, , Second Stork has helped over 1200 new families in financial hardship in Minnesota. Despite the reach and growth, Second Stork remains very "grassroots" and is 100% volunteer-based, including in all administrative functions.
