Mission Statement

The mission of the Pav YMCA: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Description

The Pav YMCA, incorporated as the YMCA of Berwyn & Cicero, Inc., has served suburban Cook County communities since 1970 -- primarily Berwyn, Cicero, Lyons, Stickney, Forest View, Riverside and North Riverside. The Pav YMCA offers a full-service facility and welcomes members and non-members alike to participate in its programs and many events throughout the year. The Pav YMCA partners with local school districts to offer before- and after-school child care at the YMCA facility as well as at several school sites. Throughout the year, the facility itself welcomes nearly one-half million visitors. The Pav YMCA also hosts the largest SilverSneakers TM Fitness Program in the state of Illinois. One third of the YMCA's members are older adults. The Pav YMCA facility is also home to the Community Nutrition Network -- providing hot meals for older adults both at the YMCA and through "Meals on Wheels" home delivery. The communities which the Pav YMCA serves are increasingly Latino, moderate-to-low income and bi-lingual or strictly Spanish speaking. Families are one of the largest segments of our membership profile. In order to meet the needs of our community, Pav YMCA offers program and membership subsidies to those in financial need. In 2005-06, the Pav YMCA awarded over $100,000 in fee assistance. This assistance helped hundreds of families and individuals to attend camp, afford child care, gain physical well being, and remain connected to their community. The scholarship assistance the YMCA provides is supported exclusively through contributions to our annual support campaign.
