Mission Statement

The purpose of The Friends of the Oak Park Conservatory is to promote community interest in the Oak Park Conservatory, to offer educational and recreational opportunities and to support projects, which benefit the Conservatory.

Description

FOPCON began publishing a newsletter and took on a project to restore the waterfall in the Tropic Room. To encourage the public to experience the beauty and atmosphere of the Conservatory a number of events were planned. In March of 1987 the Friends held their first " Spring Fling" , now called the Spring Open House/Kidâ s Fest, the Mum Festival, and a Holiday Open House soon followed.

Now, a corps of dedicated volunteers manages FOPCONâ s day-to-day operations, coordinates events, and conducts educational activities. Our volunteers play key roles in support of FOPCON and the Conservatory operations. In 2003 docents volunteered more than 400 hours; 750 hours were volunteered in the Conservatory Operation' s Room with 800 more hours volunteered to grow our annual fundraiser herbs. In all, more than 10,000 hours of volunteer service supplement the Conservatory staffâ s operations and FOPCON events, committee work, fundraising and educational activities.
