Mission Statement

The Volunteer Consulting Group's mission is to strengthen the governing and management ability of nonprofit boards of directors. We emphasize bringing together boards needing new members -- and individuals who wish to serve -- across boundaries of skill, ethnicity, age and geogrpahy.

Description

Founded in 1969 by the Harvard Business School Club of Greater New York, the Volunteer Consulting Group (VCG) has long stood as a pioneer in the nonprofit governance field: Launching the Trustee Recruitment Program to assist boards in recruiting trustees (1976); Developing the Nonprofit Leadership Seminar Series for experienced trustees to share their board experience and knowledge (1982); Implementing our successful Board Consulting practice (1985); Undertaking of a national fact-finding project to examine the ways in which individuals in other communities move onto nonprofit boards (1990); Developing the Tri-State Board Marketplace Program â a community-wide pilot to inclusively and proactively place trustees on nonprofit boards (1991); Developing the boardmemberâ s FORUM â an educational resource for nonprofit trustees (1995); and most recently developing and launching www.boardnetUSA.org (1999-2001).
