Mission Statement

Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, now celebrating its eleventh season, is committed to its mission of cultivating the talents of women artists -- writers, actors, directors, designers and technical staff -- and to seeking out innovative plays that explore the unique female experience in an intimate, salon environment.

Description

Over the past eleven years, Rivendell has grown to fill an important role in the Chicago theatre community as the only Equity Theatre in Chicago committed to cultivating the talents of female theatre artists. Rivendell is dedicated to providing women artists and technical staff a "stage" for their talents, to enable them to practice and hone their professional craft while earning a living wage. We actively seek to produce plays by women playwrights that illuminate the lives and experiences and perspectives of women, an integral part of our mission as we believe women's issues are often overlooked. We give this mission focus by sharing women's talents with others, especially women and minorities in the community who may not often participate in live theatrical events or see the contribution made by women in the arts. An important part of our commitment to Chicago is our outreach programming with women's social service and advocacy organizations.
