Specifically, volunteers and interns will be considered for NCDOT's Office of Beautification and it's
Adopt-A-Highway and Swat-A-Litterbug programs.

Welcome to the Office of Beautification:
Our purpose is to serve the citizens by improving the cleanliness and appearance of North Carolina's
transportation venues.

The Adopt-A-Highway Program: 25 Years (1988-2013)

The Adopt-A-Highway Program (AAH) was established in 1988 by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) in response to growing public concern regarding litter along the state's highways. The AAH Program is administered by the NCDOT Office of Beautification, and is a joint effort between community volunteers and the NCDOT. Its purpose is to decrease the amount of litter on North Carolina's roadsides and improve the beauty and quality of the environment.

The Swat-A-Litterbug Program is an educational effort administered by the North Carolina Department of Transportation Office of Beautification Programs.

Littering North Carolina roadways is not an acceptable behavior - never has been! Some people simply need to be informed and reminded that their littering, whether deliberate or unintentional, can end with their personal commitment to stop.

In order to communicate to motorists who litter (litterbugs), we are asking every citizen to assist us in our educational effort to ensure a cleaner and safer North Carolina roadway system.
