Mission Statement

The GreenHeart Foundation (formerly the Bhutan Cultural Preservation Foundation) is a hands-on humanitarian organization that has been active since the 1980's in the Himalayas and Southeast Asia with two primary intentions:

- To help impoverished Laotian villagers obtain sustainable livelihoods by reigniting the lost art of traditional textile weaving, providing young girls with an alternative to sex slavery

- To bring increased awareness to the legacy of unexploded bombs (UXO) dropped during the Vietnam War era which continue to kill innocent Laotians every day

The GreenHeart Foundation is also dedicated to traditional cultural preservation through the promotion of the women’s handmade arts of weaving and embroidered textiles. Our goal is to benefit Lao rural mountain artisans economically and socially and thereby enhance the wider community.

Description

Through fundraising, the sales of Laos and Bhutanese textiles and via social media, we hope to reignite the weaving programs previously established in Laos by GreenHeart. We will then have the funds and ongoing support to go back to the villagers we have been working with and help train the young women in traditional weaving techniques so that they can contribute to their families and communities.

The GreenHeart Foundation is in the process of establishing a charitable nonprofit foundation, which will combine the previous endeavors of our sister foundation called the Bhutan Cultural Preservation Foundation, which was established in the 1980s in San Francisco, California
