Purpose/Objective: Provide kitchen support for program that helps young children explore both eating, sensory and socialization skills. Kitchen Assistant Duties Help with set-up before kids arrive: Fill 3 sinks (soapy water, clear water, bleach water) Set up cart Ezpz plates for all kids, to transition to white plates/placemats by winter break Variety of forks, spoons, with several maroon spoons and nuks Washcloths Small pitchers 1/3 filled with water Bin of tiny cups, a few mugs Gloves Bell Bowl of warm soapy water Stack of smocks and bibs near door on top of cube chair Laundry basket near laundry room door White "all done" bin on curbed table Set up appropriate seating based on who will be attending Prep foods for the day Make sure the window into sibs room is covered At the end of program: Move all dishes into kitchen Wash dishes according to instructions in the Kitchen Binder Put all laundry into the washing machine, start a load if it’s full (if not wait until program is fully over for the day) Clean up food messes Put away all items from the silver cart, including foods used for the day Clean table by wiping with soapy water, then spraying with disinfectant Clean and disinfectant chairs

Have a teaching background? Receiving your degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology??? This is a great way to get needed experience and support our trans-disciplinary team! Commitment: Short term oppertunity. September 27th-October 25th Work Location: Anchor Center Number of Volunteers Needed for this Position: 2 Purpose/Objective: Provide assistance and support to teachers and therapists during classroom activities. Assists with classroom teachers to prepare for program by preparing for individual and group activities, assisting preschool students with classroom activities as well as activities of daily living, actively participate all aspects of the classroom with guidance from Preschool Teachers. Responsibilities and Duties: Attend orientation and training Use proper techniques when working with visually impaired children (hand-under-hand technique etc...) Help set up before and clean up after activities Assist in the classroom with various activities as deemed appropriate by classroom teacher Assist teacher with children in the bathroom (washing hands etc.) Volunteer will not be expected to do any "hands on" toileting Training/Support: Training by Anchor Center program staff; a staff person will always be present with the volunteer Qualifications Sought: Experience and/or interest in serving young children with visual impairment needs are strongly preferred. Has at least 2 years of experience working with children ages 3 to 5 years Enjoys working with children with special needs who may need physical/behavioral supports Patient and easy-going; reliable in keeping commitments Ability to follow directions and work with others Ability to sit/kneel on and get up from the floor and help children with physical transitions Spanish language skills a plus Benefits for Volunteer: Opportunity to interact directly with Anchor Center students and their parents; get acquainted with program staff; lots of play time!

What an amazing organization! Anchor Center for Blind Children is an outstanding organization!! I volunteered to provide support for a silent auction, and I have to say it was one of the best organized events I have ever seen. The volunteer coordinators provided training and were available through out the event to ask for help if needed. And everyone was very warm and friendly. I hope I will have the privilege to volunteer again. If you are looking worthy organization to volunteer for I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Anchor Center for Blind Children!
