Mission Statement
Marie-Christine Giordano Dance Company (MCGD) has a two-fold mission that embraces both artistic expression and education.
MCGD perceives dance is a much needed expressive, healing, and unfying art form. The company presents thoughtful and deeply moving pieces that explore the differing texture of dancing and the complex landscape of the human heart. In addition to presentations in leading cultural venues, MCGD uses dance and movement forms at classes with Brooklyn’s young people to convey positive messages of hope, accomplishment, and community that go well beyond language and cultural differences.
Description
The company’s first full-evening commissioned work "Eve, Eros et les autres" was produced by Switzerland’s L’Espace Moncor in November 2002. The group has appeared in New York City at venues including St. Mark’s Church, the 92nd St. Y’s Harkness Dance Center, Tribeca Performing Arts Center (for a full-evening co-production "Nurtured or Neutered?" in November ’05), the Swiss Institute, BAX, DUMBO, Chez Bushwick and other venues as well as in Europe. In 2004 Ms. Giordano was hired by L’Oreal to perform with her group and lecture about creativity in seminars for top-level managers. With headquarters in Brooklyn, Ms. Giordano maintains a daily teaching schedule, offering classes to public school children, professionals and nonprofessionals. The Swiss native continues to love being in New York, settled in a place where dance moves the world’s people to meet.
