Mission Statement

The Preservation Trades Network (PTN) is a non-profit membership organization founded as an education, networking, and outreach organization. PTN was established on the principle that conservation of the built environment is fundamentally dependent on the quality, availability, and viability of the skilled trades. We believe that opportunities for education, employment, and compensation of people in the trades are directly reflected in the quality of the built environment, and the effective stewardship of cultural heritage.

Description

IPTW 2006: "Rebuilding Hope - Reclaiming Heritage"
October 26-28, 2006 - New Orleans, LA

Since 1997, PTN has held the only annual workshop and conference in North America which brings together all of the traditional building trades in a single venue based on "hands on" demonstrations and sharing of skills such as plastering, masonry, painting and finishing, metal working, carpentry and timber framing. In past years the International Preservation Trades Workshop (IPTW), attended by as many as 500 participants, has been primarily targeted to an audience of people actively engaged in the building trades and historic preservation.

This year IPTW will be open to all and will focus on repairing the historic late 19th and early 20th century buildings in Holy Cross with the theme "Rebuilding Hope - Reclaiming Heritage". The work will be done in educational "workshop" settings designed to offer opportunities for people of all backgrounds and interests to gain understanding and appreciation for the value of preserving historic buildings, and practical information on how to repair and maintain them.
