Description

Seattle Shakespeare Company (originally Seattle Shakespeare Festival) was founded in 1991. Now, Seattle Shakespeare is acknowledged as the leading professional theater company in the state of Washington devoted specifically to the works of William Shakespeare and the classics. We perform a 4 play season October -June at the Center House Theatre at the Seattle Center.

With stellar productions during the past several seasons, including a dynamic production of King Lear, featuring Kurt Beattie, Artistic Director of A Contemporary Theatre in Seattle, and a rousing A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by former Bathhouse Theatre Artistic Director Arne Zaslove, Seattle Shakespeare is significantly raising the level of quality for Shakespeare productions in our region. Audiences have responded, with more than 20,000 people attending Seattle Shakespeare's programs each year and subscriptions doubling in the past five years.

Along with our main stage productions, which include regular student matinees, Seattle Shakespeare offers many education and outreach programs, including in-school touring performances, pre-performance classroom workshops, and multiple workshops focused on creative dramatics and Shakespearean culture. These various programs bring Shakespearean based opportunities directly to the community, whether in schools, libraries or community centers.
