Mission Statement

The Utah Rivers Council is a grassroots non-profit organization working to protect and restore Utah's rivers and clean water sources for today's Utahns, future generations, and wildlife.

Description

The Utah Rivers Council is founded on a passion for protecting Utah' s rivers. Yet we base our work on the belief that as much as our work is about rivers, it is also about people.

This belief comes from our understanding that healthy rivers, healthy people, and healthy communities are intertwined goals -- none of the three can exist without the others. This belief is also based on the conviction that an engaged and informed public is what will ultimately change the terms of the debate about the future of Utahâ s rivers.

If protecting rivers is as much about people as it is about rivers, people must be central to our work. In the political climate of Utah, we absolutely must have diverse voices speaking for our rivers.

As a natural outgrowth of our mission, values, and philosophy, our four programs are:

1.) River Solutions: To seek new answers to Utah' s long-standing water questions by promoting alternatives new dam proposals and to advocate for proactive protection of the values of Utah' s most outstanding river resources.
2.) River Defense: To defend rivers threatened by ill-conceived dams and diversions, pollution, and other threats.
3.) Community River Advocacy: To connect the people of Utah with their rivers and provide them with support in order to create a broad network of citizens ready, able, and willing to speak for their rivers.
4.) Organizational development: To ensure that the Council has the resources to protect Utah' s rivers for years to come.
