Mission Statement

The mission of the Sacramento Senior Companion Program is to link homebound seniors who are in need of assistance with everyday living tasks with a Senior Companion who can provide that assistance.

Description

The Sacramento Senior Companion Program works with local senior care agencies to connect homebound persons with a volunteer Senior Companion. The Senior Companion is there to help them with everyday tasks such as grocery shopping or getting to medical appointments. By assisting with the basic activities of life, Senior Companions provide the critical support that allows many people to continue to live at home. Without their Senior Companion many of these seniors would have to seek more restricted living arrangements. Besides providing tangible help with living tasks, Senior Companions also supply the crucial human link that can make all the difference in the world to an isolated senior. Senior Companions also give essential respite breaks to family and other caregivers.

When you are accepted into the program you will receive benefits above and beyond the personal satisfaction that comes from helping others in real need. Senior Companions receive these benefits:

· A non-taxable stipend of $2.65 per hour

· Reimbursement against transportation expenses

· An allowance for a daily meal

· Free physical examination

· Specialized training

Interested in becoming a Senior Companion? If so, there are some qualifications that you will need to meet:

· You must at least 55 years old

· Have a limited income

· Be able to work 20 hours per week

· Not be employed at a regular job
