Mission Statement

SOFAR: Strategic Outreach to Families if All Reservists operates under the aegis of the Psychoanalytic Couples and Family Institute of New England. Licensed mental health professionals provide pro bono support, psychotherapy, psychoeducation and prevention service to extended families of reservists and national guard deployed in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait from notice of mobilization through a year after reunion/reintegration. We also provide educational materials for teacher and pediatricians to work with the children in this group.

Description

Volunteers who are licensed mental health professionals can 1) attend Family Readiness Group Meetings or meetings of grassroots veteran's organizations to provide support and education. 2) provide individual, couples or family therapy to any member of the extended family or to the soldier once the soldier returns home. 3) help develop psychoeducation materials 4) help orient and train new groups of volunteers Volunteers who are not licensed mental health professionsa can 1) assist in maintaining web site 2) assist in fund raising 3) assist in networking to make families aware of our services
