Mission Statement

Since its inception in 1992, Theater Schmeaterâ s mission has been to produce great plays simply and foster a love of theater as an art form in future audiences.

Description

Theater Schmeater has been part of the Seattle fringe theater scene since 1992. We relocated, in 2014, from our original address at 1500 Summit Avenue to a new home at 2125 3rd Ave, in Belltown.

Theater Schmeater is in production year round. We produce 5-6 mainstage shows each year, with performances Thurs-Sat evenings (except Summers, Fri-Sat). We produce new plays by local playwrights, shows from the American theater canon, and generally one classic American play each season. In addition, we produce a free-for-the-family show in a Seattle park each summer.

We introduced a new late-night show in 2014. Questionable Content is loosely based on BBC celebrity panel shows and showcases local Seattle talent. Questionable Content runs Fri and Sat at 11PM for two nights each month.

Theater Schmeater is most proud of its work with youth. Since our inception, we have provided free admittance to mainstage shows to persons 18 years of age and younger. Our free summer park shows are geared to a younger audience and admission is free to all.
