Mission Statement

To develop programs for the strength of children and families through service and education and to be proactive in preventing the assault and neglect of children.

Description

All children deserve to be safe, strong, and free. The work of the Child Assault Prevention Project (CAPP) is essential to achieving safety, strength, and freedom for the children of our county. CAPP accomplishes this by focusing on the prevention of assaults on our children. It is CAPP's mission to educate children on how to recognize child assault and abuse before it destroys their lives and the lives of other children around them. During its twenty-four years in Union County, CAPP has reached thousands of children through in-school programs as well as thousands of parents via CAPP's parent workshops.

The professionally designed and delivered CAPP curricula for preschoolers, elementary, 6th grade maintenance, 8th grade maintenance, and special needs have proven effective in reaching children, not only in Union County, but in 31 other states and 18 countries around the world. Additionally, the CAPP-designed and delivered parent workshops have a similar impact for the parents, as it brings a heightened awareness of child assault, so they respond when their children report problems to them. The training of children and parents brings more opportunities for proper intervention in families, many of whom have suffered for generations the debilitating impact of child abuse, through lack of proper reporting.
