Do you love animals? Come volunteer with our team of Interpreters to work directly with the amazing animals of Puget Sound! Don’t have any experience with estuary animals? No problem! We provide on-the-job training that will make you an expert in no time. Volunteering during Estuarium open hours are not only fun, but also an excellent way to help the community connect with our local environment. The Estuarium features the amazing diversity of live animals from intertidal and subtidal environments in South Puget Sound. You will work with sea stars, crabs, shrimp, anemones, sea cucumbers, chitons, fish, and much more. As a volunteer you will have opportunities to learn how to use different microscopes, do plankton tows, and get access to our different events around Olympia. Do you love the outdoors and working with kids? Are you free during weekdays? The Puget Sound Estuarium K-12 Education program offers many opportunities for you to explore, learn, and have fun while helping to teach kids in the community. Education volunteers help with field trips at the Estuarium, at our local beaches and docks, and on the water. The Education volunteer program gives you a chance to directly impact the next generation of scientist, educators, and community leaders. As a volunteer, you will also have a chance to learn more about estuaries, marine life, and the history of Puget Sound. The purpose of Puget Sound Estuarium’s Volunteer program is to bring together a community of people who enjoy learning about and protecting estuary habitats. Help inspire our community to explore and connect with the South Sound! Share your interests and passion with visitors. Have personable and meaningful experiences with participants. Bring your ideas and perspective to team meetings. Collaborate with paid staff and board members. Enhance or develop new programs, exhibits, or events. Learn from educators, scientists, and community partners. Obtain hands-on experience in the field of environmental education. Encourage visitors to learn more about the cultural and natural history of Olympia. Gather donations and memberships to further grow the Puget Sound Estuarium.
