Horizon Goodwill Industries provides rehabilitative services, education, training and employment opportunities for personal growth as an interim step in the rehabilitation process of persons who are vocationally handicapped by virtue of a disability or disadvantaging condition and who can not be readily absorbed into the competitice labor market or during such time as employment opportunities for them in the competitive labor market do not exist. Through the skillful use of recognized techniques of rehabilitation, couseling and life guidance, evaluation, training and useful employment, Goodwill seeks to assist the vocationally handicapped to attain the fullest development of which they are capable.
The Goodwill model uses real work experience to help train and develop individuals who experience barriers to employment, be that a physical, psychological, social or development obstacle. Through the donations of gently used household goods and clothing, Goodwill utilizes a workforce to process donated goods, sell donated goods through its retail outlets and also participates in other work projects with a common goal: job training for individuals that have been excluded, either voluntarily or involuntarily, from the competitive labor market.
