Mission Statement

The X PRIZE Foundation is an educational 501 (c)3 non-profit organization with a bold mission "to cause radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity." The X PRIZE Foundation started the Ansari X PRIZE in 1994 which was won with the historic flight of Burt Rutan's SpaceShipOne on October 4 th, 2004 which was the first privately owned spaceship to go into space. The Ansari X PRIZE was modeled after the Orteig Prize won by Charles Linbergh in 1927 for his non-stop flight from New York to Paris.

Description

The X PRIZE Cup was created to be an event where everyone can come, experience space and be part of the personal spaceflight revolution. A place where people can watch the next generation of space vehicles fly, talk to astronauts, see spaceships and rockets up close, fly simulators, learn about the technology, learn about the curriculum available at all levels of education, hear about the careers available in the contemporary space industry -- and begin to dissolve the myth that you will never travel to space in your lifetime.

The First X PRIZE Cup was held last year hear in Las Cruces and this years event promises to be even more spectacular with over 20 rocket flights over the two day expo and the introduction of the new 2.5 Million dollar Moon Lander competition. This years event will be October 20 th and 21 st at the Las Cruse Air Port and we are targeting an attendance of over 20 thousand people.
