Delaware Opportunities Big Buddy Program

Description

Big Buddy is a preventive mentoring program for at risk youth in Delaware and Otsego County of New York. The Big Buddy Program is designed to provide an additional adult in the life of a child. The adult serves as a friend and as a mentor. The Big and Little Buddies work on homework, toss a ball, go to the library, plan outings, etc. Actually the range of activities is almost limitless, as the Big and Little Buddies mutually decide upon activities to pursue.

Cultural, recreational, educational and community involvement activities are accomplished through group activities as well as one on one matches. Cumulatively, these activities are geared toward improving the self-esteem of the Little Buddy, broadening horizons, and establishing community involvement as a lifelong investment.

These goals are acheived by providing the quality additional adult time in the life of a child.

The support of the Big Buddy Volunteers is a key component in the success of our program. Big Buddy Volunteers are currently needed in both Delaware and Otsego County.
