Mission Statement
The function of the corporation shall be to restore the historic Sherburne Inn building, listed on The National Register of Historic Places, to a functional and useable building; establish The Sherburne Inn as a viable business enterprise; and engage in other restoration and renovation projects in downtown Sherburne, New York as deemed worthy by the corporation’s board of directors.
Description
Save The Sherburne Inn Restoration Project, Inc. (SSIRP) was incorporated in January 2013 (and received its nonprofit status in February 2013) as the result of a threat to the historic Sherburne Inn, a century-old building located on Sherburne's only anchor corner. After a store chain proposed to purchase the building and demolish it in order to build a 24/7 convenience store and gas station, SSIRP's volunteer board members raised the purchase price and bought the building in April 2013.
SSIRP's goal is to restore/renovate The Inn and reopen the building after 10 years of vacancy. Featured will be a fine-dining farm-to-table restaurant, two bars, beautifullly-appointed guest rooms, event/conference space, and other retail space.
Restoring and reopening The Inn is a community-supported project. We anticipate its reopening will bring economic development to Sherburne, will support local farms and producers, will create jobs, and will draw tourists and other visitors from nearby corporations, communities, and colleges.
