Mission Statement

The CYMP strives to promote social inclusion in New York City by empowering youth and children in Corona, Queens to excel through their participation in musical ensembles.

Description

The Corona Youth Music Project (CYMP, or Ncleo Corona) is the first El Sistema inspired program in Queens, New York. It strives to serve its community and neighboring areas.

The project includes several tuition-free after-school programs, and several intensive sessions (or "seminars") for choral and instrumental ensembles throughout the year. The after-school programs is focused on a "pre-orc hestra" program, consisting of a bucket band and, later in the spring, a recorder orchestra, two children's orchestras and a children's chorus.

The CYMP serves Corona by providing a safe, fun space for children and youth to excel artistically and help them become valuable members of their community.

Within 10 years, the Corona ensembles will be part of the top youth ensembles and most beloved artistic institutions in the City.
