Mission Statement
We aim to create dynamic, engaging and outstanding musical experiences for people of all ages and backgrounds
Description
City of London Sinfonia is one of the UK’s leading chamber orchestras - we create outstanding musical experiences for people of all ages and backgrounds. Led by Artistic Director, Stephen Layton, and Principal Conductor, Michael Collins, we perform at all the major London concert venues, as well as St Paul's Cathedral and other venues in the City of London. In addition to a busy national touring diary, we are resident orchestra at the capital's popular Opera Holland Park and regular guests at major UK festivals including the BBC Proms, Cheltenham, Brighton and Spitalfields Music Festivals in 2013.
Meet the Music, our vital work in education, healthcare and community settings takes high quality music making opportunities to over 10,000 people annually in London and a variety of UK regions. This programme was one of the first established by a UK orchestra in the 1980s. Current projects include extensive work with children aged 3-7 and their families in Tower Hamlets, Harrow and underserved rural communities in the East of England, as well as performances and workshops at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Evelina Children’s Hospital, St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney, Dementia Research Centre, Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability and numerous London care homes.
