To use art making as a means of self expression and a bridge for communication to a multi-cultural population in a Chicago Public School.
Description
Hibbard School needs volunteers in the art room. Hibbard school is located in the heart of Albany Park at 3244 W. Ainslie, walking distance from the Brown Line. The Albany Park community is a port of entry for immigrants and refugees from all over the world. Our student body of more than twelve hundred students speaks Arabic, English, Spanish, Assyrian, Laotian, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Gujarati, Urdu, Bengali, Turkish, Korean, Persian, Bosnian, Chinese, Hindi and Portuguese. For these children art is a universal language through which they can communicate with one another while expressing their feelings, aspirations, experiences and values.
Art volunteers are needed to assist the art teacher. The volunteer should be able to commit to one full day a week...from 8:30 to 2:45.
Responsibilities might include:
Organization of art materials
Keeping art materials clean and in workable condition
Cutting paper
Preparing children's art work for display
Hanging children's art work in the halls
Assisting students with difficult tasks
Assisting the classroom art teacher where needed
