Mission Statement

To provide and maximize comprehensive culturally-appropriate breast cancer screening services to women of the DC metropolitan area, regardless of the ability to pay, through clinical services, education and research.

Description

The philosophy of the CBCC is that a comprehensive community-based approach will be necessary to reduce known disparities, and increase breast cancer screening rates among women who have never, or do not regularly receive such. This is not a free clinic, but a grant funded clinic with resources available to women in need. The CBCC will have the greatest concentration of staff and resources focused on breast health in DC. Therefore, our objective is to enhance and use a diverse, bilingual staff to provide access to a wide range of high quality, culturally competent breast health services to as many women in need as possible. More so, we strive to be a beacon for breast health generally in DC, supporting and partnering with other community-based organizations to increase breast cancer prevention lifestyles, increase the frequency of early detection methods, improve navigation practices and improve enrollment into breast cancer clinical trials. The CBCC will bring women together in a variety of ways to foster breast health, and support them through services so they can experience it first hand and tell others about their positive experience. We will use the most up to date information about effective methods of prevention, education, early detection, navigation, genetic counseling, and treatment services to improve outcomes for DC women. Future plans include the expansion of services to include cervical cancer screening and pelvic examinations. The CBCC also maintains a database that provides preliminary data to develop community-participatory research and better target services. Finally, CBCC provides a resource for community education about cancer prevention, screening, and treatment, and the value of clinical research.
