Mission Statement

As the first and only University of Texas sponsored elementary school, our mission is threefold:

· To offer an excellent education grounded in solid practices and a nurturing environment for a diverse group of students

· To provide opportunities for cutting-edge
professional development and research outreach for the University's academic units

· To be a model of exemplary programs to other schools in Texas and throughout the nation

Description

The University of Texas Elementary School opened its doors in August 2003, launching the first university-school-community partnership of its kind in the state. This open-enrollment charter school, operated by the University of Texas at Austin, is a research-based demonstration school that applies new knowledge produced in the academic setting directly to classrooms in an inner city school.

The school began its fourth year in August 2006 with 220 "Little Longhorns" in grades Pre-K through fourth. Located in east Austin, our students reflect the neighborhoods that surround it. Most are low income, 75% are Hispanic, 22% are Black and 3% are White and Other.
