Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.
Catholic Charities CYO supports families, aging and disabled adults, and youth through social services and opportunities for healthy growth and development.
Keeping families together. Our Family Housing programs support 172 San Francisco families and nearly 300 children through emergency, transitional and permanent housing and supportive services. We stabilize homeless families through a web of support that includes housing, meals, counseling, case management, medical care, job search support, children's activities, education, and employment-readiness services. "We used to sleep on a different friend's couch every night," says one client, 11. "You helped us, and now my family has a good place to stay. My dad even has a job now." Our Family Housing programs also take action to prevent evictions. Families who are at-risk of losing their homes benefit from monthly subsidies that keep them in their apartments, and that can also help with moving costs and childcare.
