Mission Statement
The Sandstone Ranch Visitor Center provides a place for children and adults to learn about pioneer history in Longmont and natural features of the envrionment through hands-on experiences, classes, programs, and special events.
Description
The Sandstone Ranch Visitor Center is an 1880s homestead that has been converted to a Visitor Center open to the public several times a month. Displays include hands-on exhibits on the pioneer family that built the house, wildlife in the area, a 1900s-era restored barn, several outbuildings, and a 7/10 mile nature trail. Wildlife frequently seen on site include white-tailed deer, wild turkey, raptors, songbirds, raccoons, coyote, rabbits, and bullsnakes.
The Visitor Center is open several times a month, free of charge, to the public. In addition, 3-4 free educational public programs are offered each month on a nature or history topic. Group tours are offered for schools, civic organizations, seniors groups, scouts, and others. Special events are hosted by the volunteers two times a year--a summer picnic event and an old-fashioned holiday event in December.
Sandstone Ranch Visitor Center is operated by the City of Longmont Open Space program and is hosted by volunteers.
