Description

Heart of Oregon Corps is a private non-profit based in Bend and in service to the Central Oregon region for the past 11 years. The vision of Heart of Oregon Corps is to improve economic and social vitality while increasing pathways out of poverty. The mission of Heart of Oregon Corps is to empower and inspire positive change in the lives of young adults through education, stewardship and jobs. Heart of Oregon Corps is dedicated to operating employment-based programs that help address the needs of disconnected young adults in Central Oregon and provide them with opportunities to acquire job skills and be productive members of our society.

By paying youth stipends and wages, Heart of Oregon Corps stimulates our local economy. In the 2009 and 2010, during a period of crippling double-digit unemployment in Central Oregon, Heart of Oregon paid over 1.8 million dollars in youth wages and stipends. Since 2000, HOC has served more than 2,000 young people.

Heart of Oregon's YouthBuild project addresses core issues facing low-income communities: housing, education, employment, crime prevention, and leadership development.

In YouthBuild, young people ages 16-24 work toward their GED, high school diploma or college credits, learn job skills and serve their communities by building affordable housing, and transform their own lives and roles in society.
