Mission Statement

Our Mission:
To cultivate the body, mind and soul of our students through academic, cultural and spiritual programs while instilling a sense of pride in Hellenism and devotion to Orthodoxy.

Description

The Academy brings together Socrates Hellenic American Day School and Saturday School, both schools previously run by Holy Trinity Hellenic Orthodox Church of Chicago, as well as the former St. Cosmas Aitolos Evening Greek School previously affiliated with St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago. In addition, the Academy has established a number of new educational as well as cultural and heritage-related programs and is planning many more.

We view the Academy as the evolution from an extremely successful century of Hellenic American education in Chicago primarily addressing the needs of Greek immigrants and early generations of Greek Americans to the new reality of second, third, and even fourth generation Hellenic Americans whose interest in Hellenic education and culture is now different than that of their immigrant parents.

This institution would not have been possible without the vision, dedication and contribution of so many, who over a century made Socrates School a beacon of light in the Greek-American community of Chicago.

It is our vision and intent to dedicate ourselves to enabling the Academy to become the pre-eminent Hellenic American educational institution in the United States, a prototype that can be replicated across the nation where, together with so many other Hellenic-American institutions, our faith, language and heritage is perpetuated and celebrated.

Our ultimate objective is to provide our children and future Hellene American generations with a competitive advantage as they reach to achieve great success in their family life as well as their work life. We see this competitive advantage to include Hellenic Orthodox values, knowledge of our classical and modern Greek language, a deeper understanding of our Orthodox faith and our Hellenic heritage.

We aim to invest in every way that we can to ensure that Hellene Americans excel in every aspect of their lives, that they feel proud of their culture and heritage and that they in turn give back to our community.
