Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.
The Center for Independent Living (The CIL) provides advocacy and services that increase awareness, collaboration, and opportunity among people with disabilities and the community at large.
Founded in 1972, The Center for Independent Living (CIL) is the world’s first independent living center - a national leader in helping people with disabilities live independently and make choices about their own lives.
CIL provides services to people with all disabilities in Alameda and West Contra Costa counties.
In 2012, CIL staff provided direct services to 1,000 people with disabilities, gave tens of thousands more information and referral resources, and conducted over 50 trainings and workshops.
