Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide a safe space and ongoing support to families and individuals facing challenges of maintaining stable housing.
Description
Founded in 1979, we are the only year-round homeless shelter in southeastern Vermont. We strive to overcome individual and systemic barriers to affordable housing with the provision of shelter and comprehensive support services. With a constant waiting list of anywhere from 30-50 households, our services are in high demand. We have four main programs:
- SHELTER - and intensive case management for families and individuals experiencing homelessness.
- HOUSING SUPPORT CASE MANAGEMENT - providing supportive services to families and individuals to secure and maintain housing. Case managers work with homeless and precariously housed individuals and families who face a variety of issues that make them "difficult to house" to prevent future homelessness.
- The REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE SERVICE - providing financial management for Social Security beneficiaries deemed unable to manage their own funds; ensuring that rent and basic living expenses are paid to maintain good financial standing, thereby preventing future homelessness.
- The YOUTH SHELTER COLLABORATIVE - providing transitional shelter for youth experiencing homelessness.
