Our Mission

The Children’s Alliance of Hawai'i is dedicated to providing caring support for sexually abused children, offering hope for the future.

Description

The Children's Alliance of Hawaii serves children from birth to age eighteen through its core programs and projects: Enhancements, H.E.A.R.T. (Healing Emotions with Art and Recreation Together), Ho'omaka, Strengthening Parents, Back to School Project and Christmas Angel Project. Enhancements is designed to "enhance" the lives of sexually abused children through financial assistance for school expenses, health-related costs, clothing, sports, hobbies and intersession activities. It is the only CAH program offered on Oahu and Kauai and serves the needs of abused and neglected children on Kauai. H.E.A.R.T. is a gender-specific program for sexually tween-aged children and youth. It works with children in small, supportive groups and utilizes mediums that children can easily relate to such as art, yoga, horseback riding, outdoor and cultural activities. Ho?omaka (?to begin again, to rejuvenate the mind?) is an individualized mentoring program designed to assist sexually abused youth who are struggling with life circumstances and direction. Strengthening Parents assists parents of sexually abused children and youth to enhance communication skills, gain insight into the multiple and complex issues of child sexual abuse and its impact on family members, and develop needed resources. The annual Back to School Project provides sexually abused children, youth and their siblings, in grades K-12 with a new backpack and essential school supplies and the seasonal Christmas Angel Project welcomes individuals and groups to become ?angels? by fulfilling a child?s Christmas wish list. The continuum of CAH services aims to help sexually abused children and youth: improve their self-esteem and self efficacy, increase their capacity to express their feelings, let them know that they are not alone in their struggle, develop skills for building caring relationships, and empower them to create plans for successful transition into adulthood and increase their ability to thrive in the future.
