Mission Statement

I SKCON of Illinois Inc, a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status from the IRS, was established in 1974 as a local branch of the larger International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

The primary purpose of the organization is to provide spiritual education and community upliftment through open programs and lectures, food distribution, and programs that explore and expand the public understanding of cultivating relationships.

The movement is nonsectarian, encouraging those of distinct faiths to sincerely practice what they learn in pursuit of service to God and community.

The Chicago branch of the International Society For Krsna Conciousness is a bustling and very active place. We have over 18 resident monks, college programs where we teach meditation and do food distribution at IIT, UIC, Loyola, Northwestern and U of I Champaign.

We have regular free courses for interested individuals in ancient vedic scriptures that explain the science of yoga, meditation and self realization.

Every Sunday, we hold a cultural program which present meditation and bhakti yoga to the community. It is a free event and we feed over 300 people for free every sunday.

During the week we hold classes in the mornings and evenings to present bhakti yoga to interested members of the community. All those who attend are welcome to stay for dinner.

We are trying to expand our offering of services to the community, we are also interested in contacting sections of society that have been outside of our general area of focus for example, lower income African American neighborhoods. We are also planning on introducing food for life programs in Chicago where we will distribute free, healthy vegetarian food in struggling neighborhoods.
