Mission Statement
To establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Description
Best Buddies provides one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with IDD. Our programs at middle schools, high schools, colleges, and for adults in the community offer individuals with IDD the chance to build relationships and participate in their communities.
In many schools and communities, individuals with IDD are still segregated from their non-disabled peers. Best Buddies empowers people with IDD by giving them the leadership tools they need to become self-reliant, participate in their communities, and advocate for themselves. Our programs create a ripple effect of change by training non-disabled participants to be socially-responsible leaders, giving them an opportunity to learn about the struggles faced by, and advocate for, a segment of society that is largely ignored.
Currently within Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast, Best Buddies Palm Beach is impacting the lives of 6,650 youth and adults with and without disabilities, with a goal of impacting the lives of 8,000 by June 2015.
