Synetic Theater seeks to advance and enrich the theater arts in the nation s capital through presentation and education in its unique performance style of a synthesis of the arts, fusing the classical elements of drama, movement, dance, mime, and music into a distinct form of non-realistic theater. The theatrical style of Synetic lends itself beautifully to cross-cultural performances, and the company plans to share their work and vision with people around the world. Synetic Theater strives to create the audiences of tomorrow by fostering and promoting the overall development of children and adolescents through the dramatic & visual arts.
Synetic Theater made its debut as an independent company in the 2003/2004 season, and in just two years, the company established itself as a dazzlingly successful and excitingly innovative theater company. The theater started operating as an artistic division of the Stanislavsky Theater Studio in Washington DC in April 2002. Paata and Irina Tsikurishvili, artistic director and resident choreographer, respectively, have garnered international, critical, and audience acclaim for their award-winning productions. Mr. Tsikurishvili has received six Helen-Hayes-Award nominations and two awards (Best Director and Best Resident Play for Hamlet the Rest is Silence). Mrs. Tsikurishvili has received nine nominations for Best Choreography and won the award four times (The Idiot, Faust, and Hamlet the rest is silence, The Master and Margarita). Most recently, Synetic Theater received an award for Overall Excellence in Design for Host and Guest at the New York International Fringe Festival.
