Mission Statement

The Humane Society of Durham Region is a charitable community resource, dedicated to protecting and providing temporary shelter and comfort to all animals in need and promoting adoptions and re-homing for unwanted, abused, neglected and abandoned animals. We promote humane treatment of all living things and work within the law to respond to and investigate all complaints of cruelty and neglect.

Description

A Shelter housing Dogs, Cats, Small animals and often birds and reptiles. We accept volunteers 16 years of age and older. We accept those volunteers requiring Community Service hours for School or Court, as well as Co-op opportunites from High School and College. Our hours of operation for volunteers are 8 am to 8 pm 7 days a week. A volunteer application can be obtained from our website and you must complete an interview before starting. All volunteers are sheduled and must complete a period of internship. Not all volunteers will be allowed to work with animals.
