Mission Statement

Program Mission and Model
Since 1981, the Runaway Emergency Services Program has continuously provided services to fulfill the stated purposes, goals, and objectives of Part A of the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act. These goals are:
1. To alleviate the problems of runaway and homeless youth;
2. To reunite youth with their families and encourage the resolution of intra-family problems through counseling and other services.
3. To strengthen family relationships and encourage stable living conditions for youth.
4. To help youth decide upon constructive courses of action.

Description

RESP serves youth, families and community agencies of the City of Charlottesville, and the surrounding counties of Albemarle, Greene, Fluvanna, Louisa, and Nelson. Services provided include immediate crisis intervention on our 24-hour hotline, face-to-face crisis intervention, prevention counseling to youth and families who may be on the verge of disruption, and safe shelter when needed through our network of host homes. Additional services accessed for youth and families through our program include aftercare counseling following shelter discharge, parenting and family communication education groups, and a youth mentoring program.
