Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Our mission is to work in unison with Seminole County Animal Services, and with other local shelters and groups, to improve both the quality of life and shelter living conditions for these animals and the prospect of starting a new life in a new forever home or foster home.
Our goal will be achieved through charitable fund-raising events, community education of the need to spay/neuter pets and through support of adoption events. TEARS Inc. encourages respect, compassion and kindness to all animals everywhere.
Many people are surprised to find out that county-supported shelters are not allowed to fundraise. Seminole County Animal Services will never host a "Wiggle Waggle Walk" or a "Wine & Whiskers". That’s where TEARS comes in by raising funds to support the animals in county shelters and to give these beautiful animals a chance to find their forever home... we are their voice.
TEARS is a volunteer-only organization and does not have salary expenses. This means that 100% of donations and contributions to TEARS go directly to the animals of Seminole County Animal Services for their care and needs.
County facilities nationwide must take each and every animal, regardless of whether or not they have the space for them or adequate staffing to care for them. During the county shelter’s peak months, it is common to have over 600 kittens and cats come into the shelter in just one month. There just isn't enough space for them all and, without homes, Animal Services has no choice but to humanly euthanize them. Many people have no idea of how huge the problem is. Our goal is to work with SCAS to help educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets to help reduce the pet overpopulation problem.
Every pet that is featured on the TEARS is a dog or cat that we have stepped in to save. Because the shelter facility cannot pay for "extras", these animals would not have made it to their forever homes. In addition to helping with medical needs, TEARS also works to better the shelter environment for the animals, staff and public.
