Mission Statement

Denver Writes, formerly MDPL, is a seven-year-old nonprofit dedicated to fostering writing and storytelling. Our mission is to provide young writers in the Denver area with a supportive community and creative opportunities to express themselves through writing. We achieve this by offering free monthly workshops, exciting fundraising events, intensive & expeditionary summer camps, and the opportunity to publish student work. By participating in our workshops and camps, these young writers have been able to gain exposure to theater, history, art, and songwriting through collaborations with other like-minded organizations.

Creative Writing Workshops
These free Saturday workshops have delighted our youth scribes for more than five years now. Writers, ages 8-18, continue to push their creativity and storytelling abilities and amuse our writing mentors, who encourage creative growth as they write alongside the kids.

After School Tutoring
On Tuesdays from 3:30-6:30pm, young people take advantage of Denver Write's comfortable workshop space to meet up with volunteer mentors. Educators can guide struggling students toward stronger writing, reading, and critical thinking skills. Many young writers simply come to convene, share ideas, and work on their own creative projects in a safe and happy space. And it’s all free, including the snacks.

We’ll bring our workshops to you. Whether you are a teacher planning an exciting creative writing event, a teen wanting a cool "writing" birthday party, or another noprofit looking to pair words with food, art, or music, we can help. And we house a dynamic curriculum library for standards-oriented fun with words.
