Mission Statement

The Green Project develops a culture of creative reuse by building a marketplace for reclaimed materials and cultivating a respect for their value.

The Green Project is a nonprofit building supply retail store in the St. Roch neighborhood. We resell donated building materials back to the community to keep these materials out of the landfills and to provide an affordable building alternative for everybody. The Green Project operates a warehouse, lumberyard, paint recycling center, electronic waste recycling drop-offs, environmental education programming, and is a founding member of The ReUse District.

What an awesome way to spend a day! Volunteered here with 2 other friends during a recent vacation to New Orleans. We spent the day organizing a storage area, moving piles of wrought iron, stacking pallets, and recycling paint. Sound boring? Not even close! We had a great time learning about their organization and hanging out with the super nice, super cool staff. It was a great way to get connected to an amazing community that we got to feel like we were part of even for just a short time. A very rewarding experience! Oh! And go pick up some Cream of Tater paint before it's all gone :)

Wow! Such friendly staff-- we had a great time. It was really cool to see all of the connections between our environment, community health, and housing issues. As long as you're willing to roll up your sleeves, I'd recommend it.
