YMCA READS! matches volunteers with students who are struggling to read in school. With consistency, caring and attention to comprehensive reading skill development, by the end of the academic year our READS! students are expected to read at or beyond grade-level. Reading success gives a child self confidence, laying groundwork for success in academics and in life.
READS! students are assessed by their elementary school and referred in writing to our program. Students are assessed in the bottom 20% of their class for reading abilities and are at-risk for poor performance on the FCAT tests.
