Mission Statement

Jobs for Arizona’s Graduates (JAG) is a non-profit that partners with school districts, the business community, the public sector and other non-profits to accomplish our mission: to help young people stay in school and to acquire the academic, personal, leadership and vocational skills they will need to be successful upon graduation.

Description

JAG’s Career and College Success System (CCSS) provides academic support, personal development and career and college preparation to at-risk and low income middle and high school students and graduates in Metro Phoenix, Eloy and Gila Bend, Arizona. The system consists of JAG’s five program applications:

  • Destination Graduation (grades 6-9)
  • Opportunity Awareness (grades 9-11)
  • Afterschool Academic and Leadership (grades 9-12)
  • Aspire (WIA Youth-Services)
  • Classrooms to Careers (12 grade, with at least 12 months of post-graduation follow-up)

JAG Programming targets vulnerable 6th - 12th graders who are facing barriers to success both in and outside of school. Through JAG (which is delivered during the school day as an elective class), these young people are taught key life, leadership and personal development skills that allow them to connect their education with real life. Students explore their own interests and abilities and connect those with a variety of career options. As JAG makes school more relevant and personal, students are then more motivated to improve their academic, problem-solving, creative and critical thinking skills. In addition, students begin to build key college and work readiness skills through their engagement in a student-led club; which provides them with the vehicle to discover and develop leadership skills. Through the Leadership Academy and the Prudential Leads Program students practice and refine their leadership skills which are essential for future success. To further ensure success, JAG graduates receive follow-up services for 12-months after graduation ensuring they secure employment and/or enroll in postsecondary education.
