Mission Statement
The mission of the Epworth Foundation and its parent organization, Epworth United Methodist Church (EUMC) of Denver, is to address the needs of the whole person, including the economical, political, social, and spiritual dimensions of the individual. The Foundation promotes community and self-sufficiency, with notion that it is better to teach how to fish than to merely provide a fish. In attending to the individual, the Foundation recognizes the special role of healthy families.
Description
Epworth United Methodist Church (EUMC) has a rich history of service to the Denver Community. In the tradition of the Methodist Church, it serves as a place of worship, a community center, and a resource for humanitarian activities. EUMC community traditions began in 1890 when Deaconess Melissa Briggs erected the first mission tent and opened Denver's first community center in 1892. That same year, ground was broken to erect Epworth United Methodist Church. Briggs began a legacy of Christian service that continues today.
